How Safe Is Fremont Street at Night?

Never been to downtown Las Vegas? It might be on your list of things to check out the next time you’re in town. Fremont Street is always a good time with our iconic Viva Vision light shows, Slotzilla Zipline, fun-filled downtown casinos, live music, dancing dealers, flair bartenders and so much more.

However, you may also be wondering how safe Fremont Street is at night. Some people have an outdated image of downtown in their minds and assume nothing has changed. So, what’s the truth? How safe is it? Here’s what you need to know about safety and downtown Las Vegas.

What Is Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas?

First things first—what is Fremont Street? Queue our unapologetic horn-tooting as we explain our little slice of paradise…

Fremont Street Experience (emphasis on Experience) is the ultimate downtown Las Vegas destination offering five blocks of entertainment, thrills and debaucherous nights out with your crew. Known as the original Las Vegas we feature the town’s classic casinos, some of today’s crave-worthy restaurants, boisterous bars and exciting attractions you won’t find anywhere else in the city—all within walking distance.

Basically, Fremont Street is the place to be when you want to have a good time in Sin City and are over the bus-loads of tourists and overpriced drinks on the Strip. And let’s be honest, who isn’t?

Fremont Street Experience Has Private, Professional and Friendly Security Staff

The safety and security of downtown’s visitors is Fremont Street Experience’s number one priority.   The destination invests a significant amount of time, money, resources and training into creating a safe, fun, welcoming environment for all guests.  Our professional security force consists of more than 70 full-time security officers who patrol, observe, protect and serve guests 24/7, 365 days a year.

Our security staff deploy uniformed, plain-clothed and undercover officers throughout the destination.  Officers patrol the destination on foot, in electric carts and bicycles to allow for quick response times to any circumstance or emergency.

Fremont Street Experience is home to the largest digital display in the world, Viva Vision.  The 1,500 foot long Viva Vision canopy towers over the entire destination providing substantial lighting for all visitors under the canopy.

Surveillance on Fremont Street

One thing that will put your mind at ease is the fact that Fremont Street Experience is always under surveillance, including at night. We have a top-notch security team whose job is to observe everything that is happening on Fremont and be proactive about anything unusual. We have live camera feeds coming from all angles, so we can be sure to keep everybody as safe as possible.

The destination is monitored by more than 300 high-definition cameras around the clock providing for an additional, eye-in-the-sky layer of support and security for all visitors.

Some downtown Las Vegas Casinos, like Main Street Station and Fremont Hotel & Casino, even have their own live webcam feeds where anybody can check out what’s happening on Fremont Street from a personal phone or computer.

City and Government Law Enforcement Presence

Las Vegas is the largest city in Nevada and has a strong police force, especially in its most active and populated areas. Downtown Las Vegas has a relatively large police presence to help prevent violence and crimes, including pickpocketing. We work closely with officers and deputy city marshals, who are often patrolling in and around Fremont Street Experience, to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves in a safe environment.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, or as it’s known by local police as the “DAC” for Downtown Area Command, is also just five blocks north of Fremont Street on 9th & Bonanza.

Our security officers work hand-in-hand with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, City Marshals, Homeland Security, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Department and all first responders to ensure the safest, most memorable and enjoyable experience for all visitors to the destinations.

Casino and Parking Garage Security

In addition to official law enforcement, all downtown Las Vegas casinos have their own security and safety measures. You’ll see security guards at casino entrances, on the casino floors, biking around parking garages, and even in some bars or other venues.

Because many of these casinos are directly located on Fremont Street, the additional security helps keep visitors safe.

Local Las Vegas Community in Downtown

Believe it or not, people actually do live in Las Vegas! And, no, they don’t live in hotels or casinos. But just like you, Las Vegas locals love going out and taking advantage of everything in the downtown area. In fact, downtown is where locals tend to hang out, including Fremont Street Experience for live concerts and entertainment, Container Park for shopping and food, and Fremont East District for epic bar hopping and craft cocktails.

Locals take pride in downtown Las Vegas. It’s where they choose to spend their free time, connect with friends and support local businesses. This resurgence in the local presence has really transformed downtown from the rough crowds of times past to a vibrant and lively place for everyone.

Fremont Street Crowds

Fremont Street Experience is a Las Vegas destination known to bring in the crowds—that’s both visitors and locals alike. With that said, you’re always surrounded by others looking to have a good time and enjoy everything downtown has to offer. If you imagine Fremont Street to be a dark downtown alley that you’d have to walk down alone, you are sorely mistaken, my friend!

Example of a first friday security sweep. Between 5:00 p. M. And 6:00 p. M. On those fridays, the mall is closed for a precautionary check of the area.

Whether you’re gambling, catching a light show on the Viva Vision canopy, jamming out to some live music or just people-watching, you can be sure that others are there for the same thing. Our reputation for fun-loving crowds will not disappoint, and you can feel safe knowing you’re always around other people.

COVID-19 Safety Precautions

With the risks presented by the recent pandemic, Fremont Street Experience is taking every precaution to protect our visitors’ health as well. We comply with all COVID-19 safety guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD), and Nevada Governor Sisolak’s directives. These include social distancing, requiring face masks at all times, encouraging frequent handwashing and installation of public hand sanitizer dispensers.

We also use foggers and misters to spray down hard-to-reach surfaces on Fremont Street with a disinfecting solution. This is done four times every day in the pedestrian mall, Slotzilla towers and the Fremont Street Experience parking garage.

Always Use Common Sense

Of course, we also urge Fremont Street visitors to use common sense when in downtown Las Vegas. As with any destination, always be aware of your surroundings and use reasonable caution in new places. If you see something suspicious, let a police officer or security guard know right away. This will help keep the area safe for everybody.

Downtown Las Vegas at Night

Overall, it’s safe to say (see what we did there?) that Fremont Street is safe at night.
