Official Tree Lighting Ceremony Kicks Off Holiday Season in Vegas

On Dec. 9, 2014, Fremont Street Experience hosted its official tree lighting ceremony.

The 50-foot tree sits across from our 3rd Street stage, in the heart of Fremont Street Experience.

On-hand for the tree lighting were Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Fremont Street Experience President Jeff Victor and an Elvis clad in holiday garb, of course. It’s Las Vegas, after all.

Well, that’s a switch.

The switch was flipped on live TV, and the Fremont Street Experience Christmas tree glistened with thousands of bulbs and decorations. We would love to be able to say exactly how many, but that would take “research” or possibly counting, and downtown Las Vegas isn’t about counting, it’s about having fun, so let’s just move on.

We trust this photo will help distract from the fact we have no idea how many lights or decorations are on the tree.

While not a real tree, did we mention it’s 50 feet tall?

Here’s a quick video of the moment the tree was lit. (Not an uncommon phenomenon on Fremont Street, come to think of it.)

Entertainment for the tree lighting festivities was provided by cast members of an original holiday show appearing at Fremont Street Experience during December, “Neon Country Nights.” Check our calendar for show times.

The talented crew from “Neon Country Nights,” behaving for once. The connection between the holidays and country music? A little thing called NFR, baby, a pretty big deal in Las Vegas during December.

The Fremont Street Experience tree is topped with a replica of the “Welcome to Fabulous Downtown Las Vegas” sign, much like the one that adorns the SlotZilla zip line tower.

The Christmas tree is available for photo ops throughout the holiday season. Thanks to photographer David Tingey for all the great pics. Enjoy more below.

  1. Looks like a great sight on Freemont Street! I’m visiting LV from the UK Jan 7 thru 14 and was wondering what live entertainment you have planned?
