Join the Fun: 6th Annual Downtown Hoopstown Celebrates College Basketball

Downtown Hoopstown

Basketball trivia: Slam dunks were made illegal in 1967. They were made legal again in 1976.

For sports fans, Fremont Street Experience will be the place to be March 2 through April 6, 2015, as Downtown Hoopstown returns with free, basketball-themed entertainment, the world’s largest NCAA bracket, a high hoops challenge, a special Viva Vision light show and other diversions.

This year marks the 6th annual Downtown Hoopstown. The four blocks under Fremont Street’s 1,500-foot-long Viva Vision canopy will be college banners and flags to mark the occasion.

Random basketball trivia: slam dunks were made illegal in 1967. They were made legal again in 1976.

In addition to the usual live entertainment at Fremont Street Experience, Downtown Hoopstown will also feature an exclusive stage production show, “Hardwood Hotties.” This crowd-pleasing show boasts “American Idol” season six finalist Haley Scarnato, and a bevy of talented singers and dancers.

“Hardwood Hotties” will appear on our 3rd Street Stage on the following dates: March 2-4, 8-11, 18, 20-25, 27-31 and April 1, 3-7. The show was created exclusively for Fremont Street Experience by Face Productions. See more Hardwood Hotties pics in the photo gallery at the end of this post.

Clearly, being a sports fan is not required to enjoy downtown hoopstown.

Basketball fanatics will love the “High Hoops Zone,” with a collection of basketball hoops set to daunting heights of 20, 25 and 30 feet up. Guests can show off their their skills for $1, with prizes going to those who make baskets.

Try your luck for a buck, because who doesn’t love $1 shots in vegas.

This is how we roll on Fremont Street during March hoops!

Downtown Hoopstown will also be home to the world’s largest NCAA bracket.

The over-sized bracket will be updated daily, and makes for a world-class photo op.

The ncaa mandates that its basketballs bounce between 51 and 56 inches when dropped from a height of six feet. The viva vision screen is 90 feet up.

Each night, starting at dusk, the massive Fremont Street Experience video screen will feature a special basketball-themed Viva Vision synced with bouncing basketballs, slam dunks and more.

Last but not least, the 6th Annual Downtown Hoopstown is sponsored by Captain Morgan, perhaps the greatest invention of Mankind, ever. And we’re not just saying that because they’re the sponsor of the 6th Annual Downtown Hoopstown. Seriously.

Downtown Hoopstown is a sports lover’s paradise, so join us for all the sports action Mar. 2 through Apr. 6, 2015.
