Free Concert: The Wallflowers

The Wallflowers

Talent runs in the family.

We’re proud to announce a free concert by The Wallflowers on Aug. 30, 2019, part of our Downtown Rocks concert series.

The Wallflowers take to our 3rd Street stage, near The D, Four Queens and Fremont casino, at 9:00 p.m.

Talent runs in the family.

As part of the mid-’90s revival of roots-rock, the Wallflowers held a special connection to one of the original inspirations: vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jakob Dylan.

Dylan is the son of a legend, Bob Dylan, but the Wallflowers are more influenced by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers than ’60s folk-rock. Lyrically, Jakob Dylan remains a close companion to the original Dylan.

The band’s “Bringing Down the Horse” album, released in 1996, produced the alternative radio hit “6th Avenue Heartache.”

The single “One Headlight” became a Top 10 hit, pushing “Bringing Down the Horse” into the upper reaches of the charts. “One Headlight” won Grammys for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

The Wallflowers returned in 2000 to release “Breach,” then “Red Letter Days” the following year. In 2005, the band followed up with “Rebel, Sweetheart.”

Jakob Dylan released well-received solo albums, “Seeing Things” and “Women And Country.”

The band released “Glad All Over” in the fall of 2012.
